Gokyo to EBC Trek

Overview:

Gokyo to Everest Base Camp (EBC) trekking is one the first choice destinations of almost all trekkers. Also known as Everest circuit trek, it goes through Lukla, Namche, Gokyo valley, Cho La Pass (5330m) and eventually to Everest base camp.

Passing by various villages of legendary Sherpa located at foothill of Everest (8848m-world’s highest peak), it offers the most picturesque scenarios than any other places ever have. It follows highly praised trekking trail through Dudh Koshi River, targeting to its source Gokyo Lake. There you’ll have a chance to summit Gokyo peak (5483m), a finest viewing point of Everest, Makalu and Cho Oyo. From Gokyo Valley, we pass by Cho La pass and go through another peak points Everest Base Camp and Kalapattar. On return journey we’ll step down by Tengboche, Khumjung, Namche, Lukla and finally fly back to Kathmandu.

Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1338m)

Welcome in Kathmandu. Upon your arrival in Kathmandu airport, a person from Nepal All Trekking meets you showing Nepalese reception and hospitality. Transfer to your selected hotel freshen up and take rest. Stay overnight in Kathmandu hotel.

Day 02: Kathmandu city tour

Today we are going for cultural tour of Kathmandu City. A professional city guide will escort us to historic and cultural monuments, reciting the history back to medieval period of Nepal. We are going to go Swayambhnath stupa, Kathmandu Durbar square, Pashutipatinath temple and Boudhnath stupa. There monuments shows religious integrity of the country.  

Day 03: Kathmandu- Lukla (2840m) - Phakding (2610m)

Transfer to domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport and fly to Lukla (2840m). Lukla is the main gateway to all trekkers in Everest region. At Lukla we will meet all crew members and start trekking through gradual up trail. Today we’ll trek short in order to adopt with the altitude. Reach to Phakding village of night stay. (30 minute flight/ 3 hours trek)

Day 04: Phakding- Namche Bazaar (3440m)

Ascending along Dudh Koshi River and crossing by suspension bridges, we’ll trek through pine forest and rustic Sherpa villages. Mt Thamserku (6618m) stands ahead to inspire us.  Trek along the confluence of Bhotekoshi and Dudh Kohsi Rivers, ridges and gorges. We’ll set our night stay in Namche Bazaar. (5-6 hours trek)

Day 05: Namche Bazaar day rest

Namche is one of the modern towns in Himalaya. We’ll take a day rest here in order to acclimatize our body with the elevation. Visit around the bazaar and amazing landscapes nearby. We suggest hike to Khumjung, a traditional and culturally rich Sherpa village. Overnight Namche. (3-4 hours hike)

Day 06: Namche to Phortse Village (3680m)

Today though the trail is steep, it has scenic vistas of well groomed mountains and fantastic surroundings. We’ll pass by many scattered villages, Mani walls, lush forests and reach to a small village of Phortse to take overnight rest. (5-6 hours trek)

Day 07: Phortse village to Machhermo (4470m)

It could be a difficult day as we have to walk through steep up hills via the villages of Dhole, Kele, Luza and etc. But out effort will rewards us the outstanding view of snowy peaks. Walk slowly, maintain your pace and stay positive. Stay overnight in Machhermo. (5-6 hours walk)

Day 08: Machhermo- Gokyo (4790m)

This day takes us to one highlight of our trip – to Gokyo valley. We’ll be passing by Ngozamba glacier (biggest glacier in the world) and some challenging climbs. Gokyo will open us beautiful Gokyo Lake, inspiring Thamerku, Cho Oyu (8201m), Kangtega and more mountains. We will spend the night in Gokyo. (6 hours trek)

Day 09: Gokyo: day rest

Today is the day to relax and acclimatize. After breakfast take a short hike around the lakes and high hills. The view of Everest (8848m) is just outstanding. Stay overnight enjoying scintillating beauty of natural heritages.  

Day 10: Gokyo- Thaknak (4750m)

If you are interested hike to Gokyo Ri (5357m). Or you can hike there on day 9 as well. The peak offers incredible views of almost entire Everest ranges. Today we will walk by glacier lakes, moraine and rach to Thaknak for night stay. (5 hours trek)

Day 11: Thaknak- Dzongla (4830m)

Today we’ll walk by Cho La pass (5367m). The pass offers the incredible view of Everest/Gokyo region. The way to pass is pretty steep, so walk slowly and calmly. From pass, we’ll trek by gradual downhill and reach to Dzongla for overnight stay. (7-8 hours trek)

Day 12: Dzongla- Lobuche (4940m)

After breakfast do easy start as we are going to trek short today. Enjoy the wow views of great mountains and landscapes. Stay overnight in Lobuche. (3 hours trek)

Day 13: Lobuche- Gorak Shep- EBC (5364m)

This day will take us to most iconic Everest base camp (5364m). At Gorak Shep (5140m) we’ll arrange guesthouse, put off our baggage and start ascending to EBC. In base camp there is no any accommodation facility, so we will stay back in Gorak Shep. Base camp offers close view of top towering mountains with snow mass to every extend we see. Enjoy the moment and overnight stay in Gorak Shep. (8-9 hours trek)

Day 14: Gorak Shep- Kala Patthar (5550m) - Lobuche (4940m)

Today we are going to hike to Gorak Shep, highest point of the trip. Start early in order to catch first rays of sunrise in mountains. Enjoy wonderful view and begin descending all the way down to Lobuche. Stay overnight in Lobuche. (6-7 hours trek)

Day 15: Lobuche- Tengboche (3860m)

Elevation drops as we descend down to Tengboche. We’ll pass by Sherpa settlements of Dughla, Pheriche, Pangboche, Deuche and eventually reach to oldest and biggest settlement of Tengboche. Enjoy cultural lifestyle of local legendary Sherpa. (5 hours trek)

Day 16: Tengboche- Monjo (2840m)

After breakfast, trek down to Dudhkoshi river through beautiful rhododendron forest. Crossing the river trail leads us uphill and then downhill to Namche bazaar. We’ll take lunch there and spend some time roaming around. Further descend down all the way along Dudhkoshi River and reach to Monjo for night stay. (4-5 hours trek)

Day 17: Monjo- Lukla (2840m)

Retrace back to beautiful town of Lukla. The charming view of sparking mountains still welcome and motivate us to attempt more and more adventures. Upon reaching Lukla, our trekking journey ends. We stay at Lukla for next morning fly to Kathmandu. (4-5 hours trek)

Day 18: Lukla- Kathmandu

Fly back to Kathmandu. On flight, you’ll have one last chance to say HI to towering mountains. Transfer to your hotel and celebrate the success. Overnight in Kathmandu. (30 minutes fight)

Day 19: Departure

At about three hours before your scheduled flight we’ll give you departure transfer to airport and fly to your onward destination. Nepal All Trekking always loves to  welcome you in Nepal.
